The Story of our Holiday Sunbonnet Sue

Posted 12-01-2017 by | Posted in: Downloads EQ News and Press EQ8

If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll notice that each year around this time, we have a cute little visitor to our site: It’s our friend, Sunbonnet Sue, and she has the very important job of decorating the tree each year! She holds a special place in our hearts here at EQ and I thought I’d share a little bit about her story today. Penny McMorris & Dean Neumann, EQ founders The Sunbonnet Sue animation was created by Dean Neumann, EQ co-founder and programmer. She made her first appearance on our site back in 1996, shortly after our first website was launched. EQ3 was our current version of the software at that time. EQ3 could only export PCX files (PiCture eXchange) for images. Dean made the animation by drawing individual blocks on the Block Worktable for each of the movements. He exported a PCX for each block and

Ready to hit the road for Row by Row 2017? Use EQ7 to design your winning quilt! I did! Here’s how I did it… To follow along, you will need to download this project file: Row by Row 2017.PJ7 Open the Row by Row 2017 project file. (If you get a Tip of the Day, read it – they’re incredibly useful! And then close that window.) Open the Project Sketchbook and view the Blocks Section. I’ll quickly show you the block I made for this quilt layout. Select the first block and click Edit. That block will open on the Block Worktable. Here, you’ll see the layout I designed to fit 8 rows, sashing and some corner blocks. I drew this layout using the EasyDraw tools To turn this into a quilt layout, click the Quilt Worktable. In the Menu bar at the top, click Quilt > Create Quilt from

Free project – Triangle Talk

We fell in love with the new Denim prints collection by Art Gallery Fabrics so EQ Margaret designed a mini quilt with them in EQ7. Love the irregular side edges of this mini?  Here’s how Margaret suggests doing it: Layer batting, backing right side up, quilt top right side down, in that order. Following the edge of the quilt top, stitch the irregular sides of the quilt through all the layers. Trim the backing and batting to match the quilt top edge. Clip backing at the inside angle. Turn right side out through the open top or bottom end. Press the edges flat. Quilt the three layers together as desired. Bind the top and bottom edges to finish. Free project: Download this project for EQ7 and have fun coloring it your own way! NOTE: This project only includes fabrics used in the quilt. To download additional fabrics from the Denims

EQ User Spotlight & Free Project!

Recently, I came across some really astonishing quilts and just had to find out if they were designed in EQ! I contacted Amy Krasnansky, the designer of these quilts, and as it turns out, she IS an EQ user! Amy Krasnansky began quilting in five minute increments snatched while tending her toddler son fifteen years ago. After covering her household, friends, and family with quilts, she began entering them in shows and contests. She has designed quilts for Quilter’s World magazine and the book Quilts Made With Rulers. Her quilt Time Flies But We Take the Train won grand prize in the Grand Central Terminal Centennial contest, and her quilt Do You See What I See? was recently declared a finalist in the National Quilt Museum’s 25th Anniversary contest. She works part-time as a software engineer and lives in Baltimore with her husband and two children. For more of her

Free Valentine’s Day Project!

Happy Valentine’s Day weekend Here’s a free project download from EQ user, Pamela B. of Pamelaquilts.blogspot.com! Pamela was nice enough to tell us about this project. Where did the idea come from? “I created the first Modern Love Mug Rug in 2015 for an exchange between members of the team I belong to on Etsy – Quiltsy Team. My swap partner didn’t have any preferences, so I decided to create a fun valentine’s day project for her. I had just finished a snowball table runner and had a nice stash of small red and white triangles left from that, so sewed them together and started to design. Designing in EQ7: The Modern Love Mug rug was a quick and easy little project in EQ7. I knew I had a dozen little triangles to work with, so I just set the layout tab for a quilt of 3 horizontal rows with
